2013 will be remembered as a year of unity and power for immigrant families: Our movement's tireless work moved the Senate to pass a bipartisan, comprehensive immigration reform bill in June, and kept relentless pressure on Speaker Boehner and other House leaders to follow the Senate's example. Although we did not see reform signed into law this year, we witnessed a fundamental shift in our country's support for reform with a path to citizenship, and we mobilized the broadest and most diverse coalition of its kind to demand action from Congress. It is now the voices and stories of our families at the center of this debate.
I saw our movement come alive this year. We pushed ourselves to do more than we ever thought possible by risking arrest and confronting the most powerful people in Congress when and where they least expected it. Some even put their own bodies on the line by fasting for reform. None of this would have been possible without you. With every petition signature, every call, every rally, every action, you built the foundation that gave our movement its tenacity and its strength. I am grateful for all you have done, and I thank you for helping bring us to this moment in history.
We proved this year that we are an undeniable force, and next year will see our campaign for immigrant justice continue. We will keep focus on the legislative fight in Congress to ensure that the House of Representatives ends their stalling and that reform becomes reality in 2014. We will fight to put an end to the senseless and devastating deportation policy that tears apart 1,100 families every single day -- individuals who would benefit from the passage of immigration reform that Speaker Boehner has obstructed. We will again show our political power at the ballot box -- just as we did when we made history in 2012 -- to reward those who stand with us and to punish those who stand in our way.
As we mark the end of 2013, I hope you and your loved ones can take a moment to rest and reflect on this tremendous year of action. It is for our families that we fought this year, and it is for them that we will continue to fight to victory in 2014.
With hope and determination,
The Reform Immigration FOR America team
