You made history. Immigration reform has passed the Senate. Now we must keep up the momentum to the House. Let's use the power of this moment to keep reform moving forward.
Today, by a vote of 68 to 32, the Senate passed its comprehensive immigration reform bill.
This would not have happened without the thriving power of our movement -- without your leadership in action and activists from all across the country pushing for immigration reform to have this historic victory today.
Take a moment to reflect on how far we have come. Minutes before the final countdown we asked RI4A community members what today's vote would mean for them. Here were some of those responses.
- Reina M: A yes vote would mean having my mom, dad and brother here with me and my fiancé having the same right as me!!
- Mona G: It means this country is what it was meant to be!!! It means I can be proud to be an American and know our country our leaders will do what is right for all its people not just what they want!!
- Carlos M: It means a better economy, it means that Dreamers can dream, and that they wouldn't fear the constant notion of having their parents be deported. No more second class citizenry.
While we have cleared a major hurdle by the Senate's vote, time is running out for the House of Representatives to pass legislation, and House leadership needs to break the political gridlock.
As a nation of immigrants, we cannot allow this moral crisis to continue to tear our families apart. We must demand that leaders in the House take action now to pass humane and comprehensive immigration reform.
If we keep pushing now, we will ensure victory for our families. Let's finish this.
