We are fast approaching the critical moment that our movement has made possible: S. 744, the bipartisan immigration bill, is expected to be introduced to the full Senate early next week for debate, amendment and a full vote.
We made our presence known in the Senate markup process. Everyone knew that members of the immigration reform movement are vigilant to the actions of our Senators, whether they vote for or against our families at the 11 million undocumented individuals trapped under the current broken immigration system.

We have proven the power of our movement before. Our calls, faxes, and contacts to the Senate helped advance the bill this far -- but as this bill moves to the full Senate, it will be even more vulnerable to amendments that could jeopardize the path to citizenship for millions of families. After the amendment debates the Senate will need 60 votes to clear the Senate floor and move onto the next step in the road to reform.
Senators Bob Menendez and Marco Rubio have publically stated that there is still work to be done to ensure we get to 60 votes.
"We don't currently have 60 votes identified in the Senate," Senator Menendez told Univision anchor Jorge Ramos in an interview. "We need to add more votes on the floor. That means that the community in your state, in every state, should be contacting your state's two U.S. senators saying that they want comprehensive immigration reform, that they are going to judge their political future based on this vote. And if we do this, both in the Senate and, later, with the members of the House of Representatives, we can achieve the victory that we want."
The Senate has the opportunity to make history by passing a reform law that keeps families together and strengthens our country by creating a pathway to full citizenship. We must make sure that the Senate passes this important bill. Millions of American families depend on it.
